Groundwater is the water found underground filling the spaces and cracks in soils, sands, and rocks called aquifers.

Groundwater is found in two zones. The unsaturated zone is right below the land surface containing water and air in the pores. In the saturated zone, all the pores and rock fractures are filled with water. The level of the saturated zone is called the water table.
